About Rachel

St. Louis born Rachel Gitel has been immersed in musical theatre since before she was born. Daughter of a KU musical theatre major, she was serenaded by her mother from the get-go, and grew up watching classic Hollywood musicals the way other children watch cartoons.

Her first experience performing came at the age of 8. Dressed in her mother’s leopard-print blouse, she sang “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” from The Lion King in a school talent show. She auditioned and was accepted into the elite St Louis Symphony Children’s Choir at age 12, where she had her first taste of classical choral music. She also competed in Solo and Small Ensemble competitions in the St. Louis Area where she received Superior ratings for her performances at the State level, and took part in the Southwestern American Choral Directors Association Honors Choir.

Rachel performed her first stage role as the Blue Fairy in Sleeping Beauty at Parkway West High School. That hooked her on acting. She has played Mrs. Boyle in Mousetrap, [Mrs.] Abernathy in Guys and Dolls there as well. Her first professional acting job was as a performer at Six Flags St Louis.

Rachel is a Drury University graduate with a BA in Theatre. She has worked in everything from musicals to macabre one-acts, children’s theater and theme park shows to opera.

She will be moving to Philadelphia, PA in late 2014 to pursue her career as a singer and actor.
